Amnesty International’s investigation into the conflict in South Sudan reveals horrific atrocities committed by both parties, with ethnically motivated attacks on civilians constituting war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Donatella Rovera, Amnesty International’s Senior Crisis Researcher visited the region in March 2014 in order to document the situation and the subsequent report catalogues human rights abuses committed by the rival forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and former Vice-President Riek Machar and their respective allied militias, since the conflict erupted in mid-December 2013.

  1. The situation seems similar to what happened in Rwanda in '94 with the Hutu and Tutsi. But I hope that this will end differently bc people are better connected these days. So it won't be as easy sweep under the rug and maybe that'll prevent more gruesome deeds.
